OP:CheckMate is a Tactical RPG where two players face themself for the controle of the area with two team of 4 soldier.

PROJECT CONTEXT

OP:Checkmate is the End of the Year project of my 1st year of studies with a team of 8 students. We were two Programmer, me and Valentin Payot

My job: Technical Game Designer / Lead Designer

- Determining the scope of the prototype

- Optimizing the game and implement art assets

- Managing the team

- Devlop the system of turn by turn, repart stats of soldier, multiplayer system and Characteres Abilities

TURN BY TURN SYSTEM

We chose to make a game with two players, but because we still do not have the capacity to deal with Online, we chose to make Players play on the same PC. When a player end his turn, the second take the PC and play his one.

STATS DISTRIBUTION

At the start of the game, both player can chose the stats of the 4 soldier they have and their Classe to adopt a certain startegy before the start of the duel and for the replayability.

After that, each soldier have a personnal DataBase that list all the information he need for his actions

The Classe determine the weapon of the Soldier, including:

- Assault Rifle

- Sniper

- Shotgun

- Machine gun

The stats to ditribute are limited and give bonus depending of the stat:

- Defense give Health

- Speed give range of Movement

- Precision give chance to touch the target

- Luck give more Critical chance

FIELD OF VIEW

Each units of the game have a Field of View that can detect ennemis units and place where the they can't see. I use the same as two of my other game that i improve
